Elderwood’s memory care services help ensure comfort, safety and quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Seasons Memory Care supports memory-impaired individuals with effective, person-centered programming that allows them to continue enjoying and participating in the world around them. Elderwood focuses on maintaining quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, celebrating their life and preserving their dignity.
At Elderwood, we associate various stages of memory impairments with the seasons of the year: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Using nationally-recognized assessment tools, we identify each person’s current abilities and involve them in activities appropriate to their skills, abilities and perceptions. At each stage in their disease, residents receive the most appropriate and personalized care, interaction, communication and therapy.
Currently, the Seasons Memory Care program is offered at all Elderwood skilled nursing communities, and select assisted living locations. Find a Memory Care Community here.
Elderwood's memory care programs seek to increase communication, physical movement, attention and sequencing skills, while reducing anxiety, agitation and social withdrawal. Personalized activities help to exercise residents’ cognitive processes and encourage them to explore their five senses — what they hear, smell, see, taste and touch.
Physical activity is important to support mobility, lessen the risk for falls and encourage independence. Dementia-capable care is an activities-based therapy approach that provides alternatives to traditional exercise. By performing enjoyable and familiar tasks like arranging flowers or folding laundry, they remain active while challenging their fine motor skills.
As the ability to verbally communicate fades, sensory, art, and music experiences offer alternate ways for people with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia to express themselves. Many times, these activities link to past memories, allowing residents to reminisce and experience new meaning to their memories.
